Rafaella–Eleni Sotiropoulou was born in 1976 and is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Western Macedonia (UoWM). She holds a Bachelor’s degree (1999) and a Ph.D. (2005) from the Department of Environment at the University of the Aegean. Before joining the Department of Mechanical Engineering, she was a Fellow and Collaborating Researcher at the National Centre for Scientific Research “Demokritos” (Institute of Nuclear and Radiological Sciences and Technology, Energy, Safety, and Environmental Technologies, Environmental Technologies Laboratory). She has also served as a Postdoctoral Researcher and a Research Scientist II at the Georgia Institute of Technology, School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences.
Her research activities focus on issues related to atmospheric environment management and climate change (air quality simulation, aerosol formation and transformation, impacts of anthropogenic influences on climate change, etc.). She is also involved in securing European funding. Her scientific work has been published in over 15 international peer-reviewed scientific journals and includes more than 70 articles in the proceedings of international and national scientific conferences. In 2006, she was selected to participate in the UCAR/NCAR Early Career Scientists Assembly (ECSA) Junior Faculty Forum on Future Scientific Directions (JFF).
