The “EcoHarmony” project is a pioneering initiative aimed at transforming how sustainable tourism development is integrated into higher education. Through a comprehensive and innovative approach, the project addresses key priorities such as environmental sustainability, the enhancement of digital and green skills, and the promotion of interconnected educational systems. By incorporating the Global Sustainable Tourism Framework (GSTF) into academic curricula, “EcoHarmony” educates future tourism professionals in sustainable practices that reduce environmental impacts, equipping them to lead green solutions in the tourism sector.
One of the main strengths of the project is its commitment to fostering a more connected educational landscape. The development of a Digital Collaboration Platform, along with micro-learning modules, creates an international learning environment where students, educators, and tourism professionals can collaborate across geographical boundaries. This platform serves as a dynamic space for the exchange of ideas, resources, and best practices, creating a global community focused on sustainable tourism education.
Additionally, the project places a strong emphasis on the development of digital and green skills. By creating digital tools and training educators to use them effectively, “EcoHarmony” ensures that students are well-equipped with the skills needed to succeed in an increasingly digital and sustainable tourism industry. The focus on micro-credentials also recognizes specialized knowledge in sustainability, encouraging the widespread adoption of eco-friendly practices.
Engaging a broad range of stakeholders, including educators, students, NGOs, and the tourism industry, the project takes a holistic, bottom-up approach. Its activities, such as curriculum development workshops, educator participation surveys, and the creation of the EcoLearn Network, aim to ensure that education in sustainable tourism is effective and inclusive.
Expected outcomes include the development of a sustainable tourism curriculum aligned with the GSTF, the launch of a global digital platform for knowledge exchange, the creation of micro-learning modules, and the organization of the SustainEurope 2027 Summit, which will take place simultaneously in five countries to mark World Environment Day. Through these initiatives, “EcoHarmony” aims to contribute to a more sustainable, inclusive, and competitive tourism sector.
